Simmered Cabbage

This is a simple scrumptious recipe for cooked cabbage that I tweaked a little bit from my grandmother Nana’s recipe.

Cooked Cabbage

Ingredients:

1 small to medium head cabbage, rinsed and cut into 4-6 wedges

Small piece of country ham or few strips of cooked bacon, chopped (or teaspoon of bacon grease)

½ cup water

½ cup chicken broth

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes

3 tablespoons butter

salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

Add water and chicken broth, country ham, cabbage wedges, red pepper flakes, butter and salt to a pan; bring to a boil. Simmer covered, for 8 to 10 minutes. Turn cabbage and simmer about 8-10 minutes longer, or until cabbage is tender. Pour off water and return to low heat until moisture has evaporated. Sprinkle cabbage with salt and pepper to taste.
